I have had way too many issues with blogger, as you can tell from the blog it is really messed up now and I have no idea why!!! I can't even use a new template! So, I found the website "Weebly" and have designed Kirby's website and blog around it. I have tested it with my family and it's easy to leave comments on and manuever so please stop by and let me know what you think! Kirby's gotcha day post is on it. Here is the link:<br /><br />http://welcometokirbysworld.weebly.com/index.html<br /><br />I'm still figuring some things out and will be adding new stuff so soon so keep checking back. If you have problems getting to it or leaving comments, leave a comment on this blog and I will try to fix it, but it seems to work really well!<br /><br />Loving Kirby,<br />Kirby's momKirby, CGChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8223017905823030593.post-36855687985847991472011-06-05T07:59:00.019-04:002011-06-05T10:03:35.039-04:00Dog Day in the Park<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBLMJLBw1kRHDuyaKd_VIQChIa27u5OP_hl1nOvcxsKTuDEjh9mj7untvaYzZeGg9OoD0-HqTjo8AMvMa-PdMNeG7oVk0GQgmd8vuNJ-NpaE0_7Aw3xhE0IhnatbvxwVc8ra3Eqrc6jQ/s1600/dog+day+in+the+park.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 197px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5614723521188731746" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBLMJLBw1kRHDuyaKd_VIQChIa27u5OP_hl1nOvcxsKTuDEjh9mj7untvaYzZeGg9OoD0-HqTjo8AMvMa-PdMNeG7oVk0GQgmd8vuNJ-NpaE0_7Aw3xhE0IhnatbvxwVc8ra3Eqrc6jQ/s320/dog+day+in+the+park.jpg" /></a>Kirby's mom here!
<br />
<br />
<br /><div>Yesterday, Kirby, myself, my sister and her kids went to Dog Day in the Park. It is held every year at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is sponsored by the AKC Grand Rapids Kennel Club. They have all kinds of vendors, rescues and events that you can do with your dog. I really wanted to go this year because they have a fun rally course. You pay 5.00 and you get to work on the course for 10 minutes. I thought this would be a great way to introduce Kirby to events where there will be lots of other dogs. I was very nervous about taking Kirby because he can be very dog reactive, but guess what? HE DID GREAT!!!!</div>
<br />
<br /><div></div>
<br />
<br /><div>We had rally class the night before and I talked with our instructor, who is involved with the AKC GRKC, about taking Kirby. She said it would be a great idea and that Kirby needs these experiences to help him learn that he will be okay around other dogs and that I will keep him safe. She said get there early, keep his halti on, let him slowly adjust, bring really good treats and lots of praise. So we got there early walked around the outside of the event and slowly made our way in and he did so good. Everytime we walked past a dog that he didn't react too, I praised him and gave him a treat...(STEAK!). He did GREAT!!!! Even my sister couldn't believe how well he handled everything.</div>
<br />
<br /><div></div>
<br />
<br /><div>We did really good on the rally course, which was on grass (first time for us) and it was getting very warm. Kirby really just wanted to lay on the grass towards the end, he just sprawled out on the grass, silly dog! This was just a fun match, so treats and redo's are allowed. On one part of the course some dogs walked past the fence by Kirby and he didn't react at all! He didn't have his halti on either at this point! There was tons of distractions, music, dogs barking etc.. So it was a good intro for both of us. The course had 20 obstacles, more than we are used too, and some we had not learned yet so I improvised with ones we knew. I have a video of it, but for some reason blogger isn't uploading it!!!! UGHHH!!!! Here is a picture of the course:</div>
<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5614735269053847154" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoMcigrhTdpHK7IbPcLsOsAprrKnu29MrmS6AF5l8JeWF707-De49nvblkXNFScnXgwN4Ti9IFrZV8gCjK_GJm7nyVjvewWchMwEWXfIdRhIIVPdpq-QXyYeTSsHQQ7IaMm9erUO6gig/s320/100_7880.JPG" />
<br />
<br /><div></div>
<br />
<br /><p>They also had a canine free style demo. It was so hot by this time of the day, the dogs really didn't want to perform well, but it was fun to watch. At the end, you could go into the ring and get some pointers from them, so Kirby and I did. The lady we worked with was dressed in pink because she was a cancer survivor. She danced with her Akita who also was decked out in pink. Their group is based in the southeast section of Michigan, about 4 hours from me, but we found out they are going to be opening a center in Grand Rapids in the fall and will offer all kinds of training for dogs, including freestyle!!! The lady in pink was very impressed with Kirby and what he already knew how to do. She also said to stick with rally as it would come in handy for freestyle. Here we are with the lady in pink, getting some pointers:</p>
<br />
<br /><p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 238px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5614710379410075634" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih08-CQ_dJEYLIdzBvmxC1UMcBc0cObw3FeoU_sHc_TU5fvZP0xKnTCWSO04rN9oGovL4zSHQloj58st2k6o7oleaz10stzWhyRSLh-_BmO4s2pTkgu-GQCMbXyZntuXDvs_7-q10H2Q/s320/100_7946.JPG" />It was such a fun day, and Riverside Park is a beatiful park that I had never gone too before. I think Kirby and I will be going back to do some walking there. Here are some pics from our fun day:<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5614712559784991506" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJF5Xv2zHCjjxGz2zSCfVor2CXEvHWiGTBNID2pCP6X49-deC7h3Z8yduYGKnDVuDxvCpYkxP94EC8e3AKB6D3hoJaDKI1KGTPBqOUsdRS-UxquY1hB7Qh7-i8lS_R0WtPPLyFXIel8Q/s320/100_7900.JPG" /> <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5614713058291484882" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjltx0gTxp7_dEFOUd9ZK033o0IRrctDny4ygI6MYcAUj2ZlzF9tjAY5HGw0T0Ij_YLSM-31bKUfLk9CsfKC6vuV3uKMmAhJwDwzrWu1g_WROSXpdPorFG0iV0w2jyVS_y1pcdICXPDmg/s320/100_7901.JPG" />

Actually, it was really flooded at the park and the water isn't usually up this high, but it made for a nice, shady place to have lunch:
<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5614715293827958530" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_lxf9RgXkmUexm9QbgtHoGkr3ml4vMZhw1lqa1hgRXDR_YOzPdi3tf6cLsG1Mapl-fQ2Tdd6HModdOo-jNQsCVsOT6YIrs56cotDZQ9bOULEU5LQojHkmGznbqH8vyi4nH0Hh8ElMYw/s320/100_7899.JPG" /> This is my sister, Lori, and my neices Emily and Claire.

<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5614716452241741874" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD7wfWXbnjlK-7i5ElWgiK2e8cDJY1SwUNVGTA7mBo7Nv0xd2tw3PcZZmCgbp6N93Ii0CSKTKAunln66f_u1lPdI1xHtwL53p8b_IZ3X9AwgMVnlZg2dQW4eN8lnySAGQ9sxz9uGQk-w/s320/100_7888.JPG" />In the pic below is Tyler being headlocked by "Griff". Griff is the mascot for the Grand Rapids hockey team. Lots of the mascots were there, and this one was having a blast with Tyler.
<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5614717157757876114" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS0MBygN3jdPx9f1eYi3ABrmOhFtjJNfP2EYf6tsyfMXP7CDfptxS3fCdUKBhzPrs_JWnPOtEnCdUYlXrxx94y-zopybxvsZfnnJ_pXd2PopIaDgk6UNsl0y1SpPVysykCNZQqjimEdQ/s320/100_7907.JPG" /> They had a doggy dash de lure course too, which I really wanted to do with Kirby. This is a course where they take a black crinkly bag and put it on a wire that runs an obstacle course and the dog chases it. This is right up Kirby's alley of fun, but the only thing containing the dogs was a snow fence and I just didn't want to take the chance of Kirby getting out. Maybe next year.
<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5614717982551780562" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyIwsnN4uDeitLIVsiC7rBDNAcYi50Ye2tDjevSlAAFExGt3rLgEdCOP2_o3t9kW7nSb5fw983i5P3ClkHAVRbU5U0WN4bIPA5GqMRSDsGc7Ge_BNSFe0AbaooEhtEHRooOjyPE33hcw/s320/100_7909.JPG" />I brought Kirby a cute collar bandana there too, it slides around the collar, he was pretty happy about it:
<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5614719054205860322" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDqrJZT-10Ek0dv9CTE_pU9DS5wgW8Nq8GqHP7brzg8U1L1gE3IWWufWk4T9fta5_oyToka23zEBZMalkRpKYbylwGBhk8plfwVNKPRpcCoQxxcltarc8Kqxw8oLhsn_KkniTViSYnQw/s320/100_7910.JPG" /> Kirby and Claire, chilling out in the shade!

No, not really but they have invaded Harbor Humane Society, where I'm a volunteer. Yesterday I volunteered with my niece Emily at the shelter. Our job: to socialize little baby kittens, in other words just love on them! The shelter staff said it was important for these little guys to learn that being handled by people is okay. Emily is a huge cat lover and I have been wanting to learn more about Harbor and all the aspects of the shelter so we volunteered to help with cats yesterday. We had a wonderful time and completely enjoyed cuddling with these little cuties, including the ones that weren't too happy to be held "hiss...hiss!" </div></div><br /><br /><div></div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 160px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 106px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5612129749098454914" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipicUw8FIJDO489xfUxj0L4O_0Nw4fHd-gotO0BKIfozJ6kUmnBYWb7nm9TNvP-s4_oAd6Gocn9qcL_mWBPwhYM6k66uIaxzSZ_jg3azP_N3APbsfREyzSNfymQeOV09F8Fl_nJbpBJg/s320/thumbnailCA66S9JK.jpg" /><br /><br /><div>However, Emily and I realized that these were the lucky ones. Harbor Humane Society is a kill shelter. Please know that they take euthanizing animals very seriously and go above and beyond seeking alternate ways to help an animal before deciding to euthanize and no animal that comes in has a timeline. But let's face it, it is a reality in today's world and you can't deny that this happens everyday. <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 160px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 110px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5612129435883848626" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8_cl2jkq6q320NfAMw0FRAxoi0Xnssd_WA_BVorNAihej6XbqjQ3btWn_YN-pFB8cgk4BmzqY0bmUNAuESgAL3yB03g2oUrRMqg7VzhGuAhtUtpjbJA7yhJ0XvBcsrWfFnX37Vj9Z3Q/s320/thumbnailCA7CR8I6.jpg" />In the special room that is set up for these guys (2mos and younger) there were 11-12 litters of kittens. Two had moms with them and the rest were just the kittens ranging from 2-6 per litter! Emily and I spent three hours there and loved on at least 18 little ones. We didn't bother the litters with the moms because we were unsure of how the mom would react. One litter that was with the mom looked like they were born just days ago, probably at the shelter.<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 160px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 142px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5612129300148724578" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1Vu8UXQhZ2ayTJZ_V0oj3CS86oK1QRUjFJn1NeJZHrStq793Y92Dn-8JxW0UvrCIPh1lp_9iNOHB3Q-wPrQGtK5l7OPN_dszpg3mzJCl3QCPG2i2rjJX2Sp5EDydgrK4nzqPxMOhSMQ/s320/thumbnailCA4SL9CC.jpg" /></div><br /><br /><div>Harbor gets in litters every day, especially now! Spring is huge for shelters and litters. Harbor relies on foster homes, rescues and the space they have available to take in these litters everyday. They search out every possible place to house a momma cat and her kittens so that they don't have to euthanzie. The saddest thing in the world is to put down a healthy animal, due to lack of space....but it does happen.<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 160px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 120px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5612129000084680994" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4564L0hHWryOatve8HuPpJtUqf_hi5bPnzlibaI0Lo2HYictbbwXBcsODx83gOxv7oVZVcKxWgsDHPWSIsFOJna7snCefDxOGW1SPNWNv7syF1855ks6CeMJLMeFuII1KSD0auQFPpA/s320/thumbnailCA1FPJDZ.jpg" /></div><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><div>In 2009, Harbor took in 981 kittens under 6 months of age. Of these, 405 were euthanized. This could have been due to sickness, but it could also be due to the fact that Harbor had no foster homes or space for the kittens to go to and therefore had no way to properly care for them. It's a sad fact, but it's reality. Harbor is the only animal shelter in our county, therefore every single litter comes there!! <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 160px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 117px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5612141005825354834" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4ZqYYb5jM3k4KGlA94OQ0Zs5vNQb17pRjxEB3TgzhfUYbFfM1IHPQ9gMML9QKa8Lf4alINqRSCuvAvfycatVN08zJtczCGhS9fIDjfqaxvo85QIP88g-xFATfDOlIIFceMgUucaFubw/s320/thumbnailCA8SWC16.jpg" />Do you have a shelter near you? Right now is prime kitten/puppy litter time!! You would be amazed at what you can do to help a shelter right now. Everything from newspapers, blankets, kitten/puppy formula, food and toys is what they need! I know at Harbor, they rely entirely on private donations. Shelters also need fosters. I have never fostered a litter of kittens, I have no idea of what is involved so I can't tell you much about that. But can you go in to a shelter and love on some little ones, and show them how loving people can truly be? A few hours a week or a month mean a lot to shelters that are truly struggling right now. At most shelters, the staff doesn't have time to snuggle and love the animals, they depend on volunteers to do this. Now, I can tell you that this is TRULY rewarding for both you and the animal!! I have been asked how can I volunteer at a kill shelter? I answer it's BECAUSE it's a kill shelter that I volunteer. Volunteers can help an animal become more adoptable just by spending time with it. <br /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 160px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 106px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5612141831764005938" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh59G0cq7J5RuKHQ2tWdz4YSnKEsa5DJ2_e4qYNc-1JABneTom9THCwk8HP3pXZGhhnQFExbf761EsnBr1CxlxdpCxxZxOvRyCf_Kjyi5QEAMRyvvtzXVjO9YzMLz3P600jaGh3bUK8rQ/s320/thumbnailCAQZPQDV.jpg" />One more thing you can do is to support low cost spay and neuter programs in your communityand strongly encourage any family and friends you have to have their animals spayed and neutered!! </div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 160px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 160px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5612140119660656482" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqVrVIODtqMyz0ZOKgF4n90uE022eBnJm9NGExc4MSZEb-P1Bf1pnCy0rj4rghca_Nolbedsqw3rAxgCv7CSZ-oVbkW-4CN3dms9oALydiEMtHBeUycwte-iWzvt0r3XVwTWeGFzvtLg/s320/save+lives+spay+and+neuter.jpg" /> Loving Kirby and kittens,</div><br /><br /><div>Kirby's mom</div><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><div>PS: these pics are not pictures of the kittens at Harbor, they are ones I found online.</div></div></div></div></div>Kirby, CGChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8223017905823030593.post-54669805527817273112011-05-28T08:50:00.003-04:002011-05-28T08:59:05.416-04:00Blog Hop Saturday-check out this pic!!Kirby here-<br /><br /><br /><br />If doggy gymnastics is a sport, mom may be entering me into it along with rally. He did get all growly face on her at first but once we started walking he calmed down pretty quickly, he wasn't even huffy puffy! We walked for about 45 minutes and both dogs were pretty exhausted. When we returned to our spot Kirby felt comfortable enough to roll in the grass on his back with Diah watching him!! This is big for Kirby, he knew she was there, yet felt okay to be silly! Diah also did well, did growl a little bit at Kirbs when he did, but she did great too! They did not have any physical contact with each other yet, just walking on opposite sides with my sister and I in between them. We ended the adventure on a good note and we will plan on pack walking again. My sister and I really want them to get along because we spend time together at each other's houses, so we are taking this really slow. Also, when we were walking a some runners came by with a dog and we pulled off to the side. I put Kirby in a sit and we did the watch command with CHICKEN for treats and he never reacted at all to the dog!!! YES!!! I am really hoping with more good experiences Kirby will be able to keep himself under control when around other dogs.<br /></div><br /><div>I didn't bring my camera with me because I wasn't sure how the meeting would go, as they continue to meet I will try and get some pictures.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Enjoying Kirby,</div><br /><div>Kirby's mom</div>Kirby, CGChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8223017905823030593.post-89699304672810237652011-05-21T18:28:00.011-04:002011-05-21T18:59:35.885-04:00Another Harbor Adoption Day!<div><br /><div><br /><div><br /><div><br /><div><br /><div><br /><div>Kirby here-</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Well mom did another adoption event today (actually 2!). The first one she was at got over earlier than expected so she took the dog she had and went to the other one. Take a look at who she had:<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609300452897404498" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3-Z04IkulqolhKrJEL-uD2qM1OCHqjUXShFVSFY1yBhBdBViPBVxLNVOCJMX9f9gcdFqgy7mo3yUXpEBYxFX8rgIYuXRVND4XNKOa_Eh7nhHuo-cwBR_4pFHDnfLVJiDT5KGQSlyzww/s320/100_7588.JPG" />Her name is Maggie May, she is 3 1/2 year old cocker spaniel! (and she is riding in my mom's back seat!). Mom said Maggie May was surrendered by her owners a few days ago because they were moving and couldn't take her with them. Mom said she rode in the car really good, you didn't even realize a dog was back there. Maggie May is a total lover and loves everyone and everything, not bad for a dog who just got surrendered by her family huh? Mom thinks she will get adopted soon, possibly by one of the volunteers who just lovers cockers!!! Here is a picture of Maggie May and her wagging tail (yes she is a long tailed cocker spaniel!) That tail never stopped waggin all day!:<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609301531992872818" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpAl7bPbJcqCDfSDsCnyQUe6A6_1EBtOd-AddiblenAN35h9pH21AVqpLrui0MB2h8ZsAMoIz60cLg-ctvfqjk2Px6fFntSuHpJlWuyoi2sfxlunF23xMlIJqK7cRqvEw5u7zOWb6uDw/s320/100_7571.JPG" />Here are some pics of the other dogs my mom hung around with today. In the picture below is DeLorean. He is a deaf pittie puppy, but guess what? He knows sign language! The staff and volunteers have worked with him and he knows quite a few signs already, very impressive!<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609301922982111474" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJsSMf-iG8j5r4VEZPypKFkuKEn7Tmrw6GICT1O7sXWHETDhSZVmNilbwyCoS_GsHvtWhBjeUtpydSd4lOV9m9FtUy6-wi2sXfm7zIY9_vWLt1XKmDkc7GDQZkcIRH2tm1XgGioJtcmg/s320/100_7540.JPG" /> In the pic below is Clyde. He is a pittie puppy about 6 months old or so. Do you see his ears, his previous owners cut his ears off with scissors!! Mom says this is a common practice for people who use pitties for fighting. Clyde got rescued just in time! Mom said, even though he was tortured by people, he loves them like crazy and doesn't have a mean bone in him!! If you have a lap, he'd gladly sit in it!<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609302604621791490" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgH7AB40KMl-Fj_3lK56FtGvZpqU9FUKTf-P_bbMUkACqBns5YjWUWB9l8hwDEB2yUAK8NuUDwzhiujfoCgXYSDdZPAhM1WjaCXxqShMMgcW6qutOTzhxzGvfdmBubqdDMkeXzlNomS2g/s320/100_7555.JPG" />In the picture below is Jax. He is a 10 year old beagle!! Mom says he is as sweet as his ole' face is!<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609303632720820818" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYuZHQpgN1ICRAhA5F9PZAYfOHN52zUv46Nb8NkUx1mmowlV6aJ8d9zrj5byUSAqN7QfxZlI_cXgnAyFRxFjeVoAXvoRplm0RiUXXWfUpt3gUmuWfBUfjtL6PzXW40FnwMkOTmNb09ew/s320/100_7560.JPG" />Below is Boomer! He is a 10 month old Boxer hound mix. Mom has had him at adoption events before and just loves this guy!<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609304208240051410" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzBcZYOFiiWBTChWBd5lsOfQM1O4QG2BPSS8tzJG8ZWGxHq0KyftxZdlN6xLhvPKxHmHQKYrIPlafEMQHJn8ylBBtJOLYgmrOrYY2BapN5-_Pqxs4i3QzAy-vC-PdYejPCP2Ch7I2XyA/s320/100_7574.JPG" /> In the picture below is Beetle. She is a french bulldog, check out those ears, mom said she was very comical with them, but was very laid back and easy going. Just a really nice girl!<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5609305153435047138" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnTKKIv7acBdfDLeS06g4ALtvdzaVfHjecsO-ArhMTCMf3RcHHlD6DekEmfOs2YrT3fPXeDCrHurE7riNNqDyUGg1STtr1SJ2E2RaB9odVJ4t3nnhCmxCIwyxAsl_-3Bl2mHZoxD7mMg/s320/100_7586.JPG" />And then there was Kelly, a beautiful hound dog! Her name is Diah (pronounced Deeahh) and she is my Aunt K's new dog! You may remember my Aunt K's dog Scooter died in March. Well Diah came home yesterday! My mom met her today and said she is a real sweetheart and is really good with little B who is almost 3 years old! I will get to meet her soon, mom says she needs to settle in first and get used to her home, oh yeah, I remember those days!</p><br /><p>Aunt K took her to the vet today and the vet questioned if she really was a hound dog? She was listed as a treeing walker hound dog. But the vet said she doesn't have hound ears. Yep, my mom would agree with that, but she has colorings of a beagle. So we are going to share some more pics of her and we would love it if you would tell us what you think she is mixed with. Mom has her own suspicions but we want to see what you all think. </p><br /><p>Diah is about 35-40 pounds, is about 3 years old and her fur is very soft. Check out our dance board:<br /><br /><p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607480868911335218" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9dR0j9bpbT1jAxgavSzT7YzA8c95JEdYHaW6O1afs5IfHPqArrnHncCn_PlkQ1HdxaXjEUKW93vef4rRqxO1vFxY7yK6VM-kA1F7pLRxfjhreegOwq5u_V-M8z4-RxgB8r7x-J7lurg/s320/100_7514.JPG" />We had to change the song too, the beach boys just got me too excited!!! So we slowed it down a bit and we will see how it goes....what song are we using...its....A SUPRISE! Okay, now for the sneak peeks. These are a few of the "moves" we are putting into our routine. We are back! Well Sort of...Kirby here!<br />We are back, the computer is up and running except for one problem, we can't post to our blog! We can write the entry and save it, but can't post it! So we are wondering if any of you can help us. Mom's computer guy updated us to IE 9 and ever since we get "javascript void (0) errors" Has anyone gotten these before and if you did how did you fix it? So mom has asked my aunt Lori to post this entry in the meantime.<br /><br />Mom and I will be spending some time this week and weekend checking up on all your blogs. We have missed following you guys and are so glad to be back!So a quick recap! Over Easter weekend my aunt Lori and the kids came and stayed the whole weekend! We went to a new park, Grand River Park! It is next to the Grand River and mom has been wanting to go here for a long time, but because it's kind of desolate, it wasn't a good idea to go just by ourselves. Well, the Grand River had flooded due to all the rain and I got quite muddy, kind of hard to tell by the pic below, but let's just say, I got a bath when I got home! See where the puddle is, there is a trail under it....somewhere!<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603764691496649938" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNyl_kuPtXmsjecYBJXotjrRjAvRJGLo_uhLTPCT6ve6PE6X9S-yAlnbpcQ2jTEwZAwSA_a67ie57D4kBfzg_oc8JqDVTGdJ0g9jVLZSU6hhjF0YhX-wryoGcb9uaXprst6YQdxuLT1A/s320/100_7337.JPG" /> I also got to play "Adventure dog" and climb a tree. I was certain I would have seen a squirrel but there were none to be found!<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603765993819201602" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipI8h6isZgZ0IWP8DLpxnDO673zLegUP0AE06z28NOqNrmc-hC8ZrUvPEFLp7WYNl6oUnje1S7PXr3xwOcLtN_hY103gzVk4YvpaDM0A6WRsF1kFsPITjfY0-qF0p7foQSpplOiefOHw/s320/100_7358.JPG" /><br /><br />I got to spend lots of time with my Aunt Lori and the kids. I got to show off my tricks with her too:<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603765367957004738" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7zQfFDHHqhfLJ5GtjQ1-jJgin3ad1GmiKH3hUfYWXDx96SaJbLaaWtpS4LLe5vnTfuiiaWLaq4QeYcSq6MRETnqPGHwozLWxdzchzLoHIx3CMP6jjkFY-W6dAI-Zefmd0nCwpw-J-hA/s320/100_7372.JPG" /><br />I also got to spend a lazy morning in her arms:<br /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603766640031281186" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDpFCuzNtAMqiKk8SH3vn8jsL1eO2eUFxzg5S-WJpCGkqBwwc91Ijc3Q9G6vpMoNhGYP_i4k42sLVnO6h7ulfxvmZGsXMSI8nRq6uHaAXiD3yJTBzlOPmvs_pdFPTCW5fSyxlD8si43Q/s320/100_7384.JPG" />Mom and Emily worked at an adoption event for Harbor too! Here is a pic of them, what a team!<br /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603767004411647842" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggJoHjTg4KG_mC6EQS9jNSbnCjgcXOxy06FH7RG0sKdW0kw538qvgODx7CBJ3uyi2WPoNqxe6c51Wm12GQgh6pa5Gdfy5od6UQByvdUbuWHdLJpSfRw4PUeIwwIv_KPxUo8jcNC0rNPg/s320/100_7388.JPG" />Look at who they got to hang out with too! Below is beautiful Olivia, this is who mom and Emily hung out with. She is a beautiful pittie with a wonderful temperment. Mom says Olivia is just a lover and just wants to be petted and loved. Mom found out Saturday that Olivia got adopted! She went into a home with 3 kids between the ages of 12 and 5, the family previously had a pit and wanted another one and just fell in love with her. Yeah for Olivia!: <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603767533744439602" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwzatOpcyrBZF3NZTpKrB8bcrpxZmDVEC3j2_iwwYNR87agmB8gYXmBYGGEh74CdopHCLtsLx9VNKw-By2mD0XCUGRXMqWSry6qO-jfDY0ZWZUhKlchdtdv6JapLfuLkJq8f52p7MD9w/s320/100_7389.JPG" /><br />Mom did another event Saturday and she got to hang out with Boomer. He is a 10 month old hound boxer mix. Mom says he has lots of energy but is super smart and is going to make a great dog for the right family:<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5604877037345765986" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhItWLFwkMZ5Zvbbdi8cvGBZg0wUwZ-DEu0u2sXWVpxhoJwI8wUA9bqJXRu3jxYNX5EBUVbk15vHwYaXgf7l53QG2XcYf734cBemysxQPkg4FAAdhTvXurg3ve-KHbfCB5WpzMQCMtJCg/s320/100_7485.JPG" /><br />Mom also spent time with these other dogs. Do you remember our previous post about<br />Abbie. Mom really thought this family was going to adopt her, mom found out later that they didn't. Mom was really bummed because Abbie has been there for quite awhile. Here is a picture of beautiful Abbie:<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5604877828261282690" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOSyDn0gylN0YmOjDULP7zsB2FCn9ATrX42UDHa5250a5LjQ3HJm_7uXdLWNVV2PjLeHhA8lhGF7ttjYZAhX4QZdMNEm5F8jHnw_LdvwSKNSJgwVjEXC_rU_S_y6ancfKlOT4c9lgfCg/s320/100_7488.JPG" /><br />Mom also had a pittie mix named Bishop there, mom said that life for Bishop is a party and he is the center of it! You can tell by his picture, just look at that smile:<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5604878303445830178" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhITVTKy6yj81GCB7b287FtSGfFKaC8jooZUU9P2_ZQx_U1b6BCQobextrRWMOvF2rZJriLstHhs9d6aV_Av7UgG_X2EEp-YXND-Qzv3YwxVt3aXsm3I3cj9MhFZXzqQx8e-NqZTe4zKA/s320/100_7491.JPG" /><br />Then there was also Carlos, a 6 month old pittie mix. Mom said he was just completely adorable and a total toy hoarder. If one of the other dogs had a toy he wanted he stood there and barked at them, mom said he provided lots of laughs for them at the event. A family filled out an application for him at the event so we are hoping he is getting adopted this week!:<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5604879119631083810" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpXwTaEQSU9yiGbHZjcHHuaXi6s2m3KiSfQqOlMs3Y2-ebDxxtAmqVbuXg6c6obTHV0iYYXtLm76o7fBV6HOPKHr4AilSYe0Bdms5DuyAIvhLfYx9IV7C4myw02SB2UknjOy92m4eNZA/s320/100_7497.JPG" /><br />They also had a little 4month old pit lab mix puppy there named Buddy. Mom said he was such a cuddler and had the best puppy breath ever!<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5604879827847728530" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9i4bsDeeKgU_9ipyxjOkRMQzGI3L5uygZWWkC7_KDK3o52XEKQiy8usHKX1hx4HB9R4MCF2sWVJX7JqvCnitb7xbyF9U6xV6qWu9WkbZmsLJc1ol3ftvRbwHFsb8o2Y5fourycEahJw/s320/100_7480.JPG" /><br />We haven't had rally for the past few weeks because our instructor is at a conference but mom and I have been practicing on our walks. Mom has made me wear something called a "halti." Well, let's just say I'm not too fond of it, but I'm getting tons of treats so it's bearable! Well, I'm probably missing some details but I think I gave you all the highlights! Can't wait to see what you all have been up too!<br /><br />Oh! Here is a pic of someone special coming into my life soon. Are you wondering who she is? Well, it's kind of suprise! I will let you know more soon!: <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603775309433656674" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwRnpGCYg8uO37Dz_wivpHb-Z6E-G5qjSFwo8N9GDRQxS0BxdPThptSkyu6SxVZnWQOWOW0Na40_ZVfB2qN2szEwjaI2wLCdus1GokeRTrBFX-isXZk-WdvuNmKgXfK5puKTOqoFabww/s320/DSCF0033.JPG" /><br /><br />Woof!<br />Kirby<br /><br /><em>Kirby's mom here-</em><br /><em>I wanted to update you on the use of the halti. Right now my reaction is WOW! Kirby has done really good with it and it has helped immensely around other dogs. One night we were at a park and walked right past a dog, that I didn't even know was there, but Kirby did and all Kirby did was look at him! We went to Lori's house last Saturday and met her and her dog Dillion at a park. Kirby has met Dillion before and it didn't go well at all. But that day Kirby was able to walk right past him and be totally in control of himself! He still wasn't fond of Dillion if he came up to him,but he didn't growl or bark, he just backed up...YES! Then when I went to my other sister's house we went out for a walk. In here neighborhood there are several dogs that are kept in yards by electric fences and one of them is extremely dog reactive. Well the first time we walked by her Kirby reacted himself but the halti helped to keep him under some control. When we returned to walk past her again, Kirby ignored her and watched me....YES! Then the other morning we met another girl and her dog out walking. This dog's name is Lady and is a nice dog, but has no doggy manners and Kirby isn't fond of her. Well Kirby stood by me and her owner only let her come so far near Kirby. Kirby just stood and stretched and walked away...YES!!!! No growling or nothing! So far the Halti is proving to be a very valuable tool for us! I am hoping that if we get enough good experiences under our belt, that the bad ones won't throw us off to much!<br />Enjoying Kirby,Kirby's mom</em>Kirby, CGChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8223017905823030593.post-43856227145279824782011-04-30T14:52:00.002-04:002011-04-30T15:06:08.772-04:00Where have I been???Kirby's mom here-<br /><br />Hope you all had a wonderful Easter. Just so you know, Kirby and I didn't have any bunny stew! Thank you for all your wonderful comments on my Smilebox below. I had so much fun with Kirby that day!<br /><br />Well Kirby and I have been having some major computer problems the past few weeks so now the computer is in for repair. For weeks I have been having problems just getting onto the internet and we have tried some repairs from the computer place but have not been having much luck. We hope to have it back by the end of the week. <br /><br />So today Kirby and I are at my sister's house and I thought I would give you a quick update as to what's been going on with Kirby. <br /><br />Rally: Last Friday Kirby and I did the course twice without the leash and he did AWESOME!!! I was nervous at first because of the other dogs and how he could react, but he handled it awesome! It was fun for both of us.<br /><br />New training tool: I started using the Halti with Kirby last Sunday. It took some getting used to but he is adjusting good to it. It is working great around other dogs too. We walked a behind a dog the other day and Kirby didn't pull towards him or anything. Today we met my sister and her dog Dillion at the park and Kirby did great, no growling. This is really important, because if Kirby and I are to do the fun rally event in June he has to be able to control himself around the other dogs. So far so good. We will try some pet stores soon to see how it goes there. <br /><br />Canine freestyle: Have you heard of Honey the Great Dane? She is hosting a dance contest and Kirby and I are going to enter it. You can get to her blog from Kirby's blog by finding it on the blogroll. Hmmm...so what will Kirby and I be dancing too? I will give you one clue, it's a Beach Boy's tune!!!<br /><br />Volunteering events: My niece Emily and I volunteered with Harbor Humane Society last weekend. Oh yeah, it's good. Mom put it into a smile box just to add to the "mood" of the shoot. OH, just so you know I got huge treats for this, we are talking CHICKEN!<br /><br />(You may want to turn off my music player before watching it)<br /><br /><br /><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" bgcolor="#ffffff"><tr><td><a href="http://smilebox.com/play/4d6a51784d4463304f44453d0d0a&blogview=true&campaign=blog_playback_link" target="_blank"><img width="386" height="303" alt="Click to play this Smilebox slideshow" src="http://smilebox.com/snap/4d6a51784d4463304f44453d0d0a.jpg" style="border: medium none ;"/></a></td></tr><tr><td><a href="http://www.smilebox.com/?partner=hallmark&campaign=blog_snapshot" target="_blank"><img width="386" height="46" alt="Create your own slideshow - Powered by Smilebox" src="http://www.smilebox.com/globalImages/blogInstructions/blogLogoSmileboxSmall.gif" style="border: medium none ;"/></a></td></tr><tr><td align="center">This slideshow design created with Smilebox</td></tr></table><br /><br />PS: if you have a recipe for bunny stew let me know!<br /><br />Woof!<br />Kirby and the bunnies!Kirby, CGChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8223017905823030593.post-65150203389567612722011-04-17T07:43:00.009-04:002011-04-17T08:22:20.212-04:00What's up with Michigan??Kirby here- <br />Well I'm not getting this weather here!! Last Sunday it was 85 degrees here (UNBELIEVABLE...and so not Michigan in April!) But today, one week later, we have had snow flurries and it's been in the 40s!! Yes, mom is thinking I may need my coat today for walking, because we also have wind gusts between 30-40 mph! Forget the coat mom, you may want to weigh me down with a back pack or something so I don't blow away! Overnight tonight, they are saying we could get up to 3 inches of snow....SAY WHAT?!! Well, this past week wasn't too bad. Mom and I have been able to go to the parks in the evening because it was so pleasant outside! <br /><br />I had rally Friday night and mom and I had fun. The only thing I barked at was at the door because the wind kept rattling it, but other than that I behaved myself! Mom is learning how to keep my leash loose while walking the rally course. Our instructor told her to hold the leash in her hand and put her thumb in her pocket and leave it there. That way she doesn't pull me and I have to come "willingly" with her. Yeah, did you catch that word...."willingly"! BOL! Okay, I actually did pretty good, mom had chicken for me so that was a huge motivator to stay near her. Overall, we both are doing pretty good with rally. There is a fun rally match coming up in June that mom and I might go too. Here is the link, it's called Dog day in the park: <a href="http://www.dogdayinthepark.com/home.htm">http://www.dogdayinthepark.com/home.htm</a> <br />Park? Park? did someone say park?!! I'm hoping we get to go! Mom said that we may try it, but I have to learn to keep myself in control. I told her if she brings chicken, I just may be able to do it!!! But mom would love to do something like this with me, and it's just for fun so no pressure, although mom has already told me we aren't in rally for titles or ribbons, it's just for us to have fun together and help me to be the best dog I can be, yeah she's the best isn't she! <br /><br />Yesterday mom worked an adoption event for <a href="http://www.harborhumane.org/index.htm">Harbor Humane Society</a>. She brought five dogs there! Mom was excited because three foster dogs were showing up too! It was busy, but hopefully successful, because it looks like Abbie, the lab mix may have found herself a forever home! Mom will find out Monday, so we will keep you posted. Mom has worked with Abbie alot at adoption events and is a super sweet dog, but has noticed that Abbie's spirit is dwindling, she's not as excited anymore. Mom says she's tired of being at the shelter, she's been there for about 6 months already and she really needs to get into a home environment. So keep your paws crossed for her okay! Here are some pics of the doggy dudes and dudettes that were there: <br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596520874865685282" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx24iIhU6Fz1sZew1V_rRRUgC3wGIxKFE-WQDRl4F4eVFuCzRjaezc99Y9pdjAaTryLcnB_UBCqeDFQ7mX-HTwwmJYi4gW6IJZuG_dNU3DNbLRW-YQPZks8JkiVP4o27-d9yVfGZACSw/s320/100_7209.JPG" border="0" />This is Valentine, she is a 10 month old Pit Mix puppy. And mom said she is all puppy! She does know sit, down, and off and is learning to walk on a leash. Mom and I love here ears, pure sign of intelligence!<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596521445679361778" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsTDv4bKwClXMrG6uhphGfG7IrY__0VoApv0X4TZawOFwMlDrU1dEf2bGnouzG07AmbuUOUdOcrkUWQIOCq1rY36sNe6Q-qfC3BGcAnLVYnJykisp4msUC_d17pTtISbHQ7vzudmiBXw/s320/100_7205.JPG" border="0" />This is Olivia, a two year old pittie. Isn't she beautiful! Mom shot this just when she was sticking her tongue out, cute huh? While there the volunteer that had her taught her how to sit pretty!</p><br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596521967586473570" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcE0IJmRb5iZ0n3wLcxzZCRljlcb5_5a6fQf2d2HGXQM5QJD95cV-sliooFPZQnkNHjmSc2LqZM2hNfyswM97k76iAySnSiE7xQBRXgcI4po7ViP8tor8Mc8mMlDqrqKnKSz6jcJ5PPA/s320/100_7215.JPG" border="0" />This is a picture of Dillion, a two year old American Bulldog mix. Mom calls him a gentle giant. Dillion is a people lover and loves other dogs. He just wants to be loved. Poor Dillion though is very stressed at the shelter and is losing weight, badly. The shelter is using medication and special food to help him increase his weight, but what he needs is a HOME! Would you all mind saying a little prayer for him, that he finds his home soon!</p><br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596522919556527970" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgu0e_OO33uO-E2Z4OBVyddd0cK-T178d5bBASc8bSJKhRyeJc8_PF73PEip7SN-Vov7Vu3bJmGQ577ZhNWCnvBlQWfRlcc6uzm53Lh1tBAgW8C18F88meSUGiuXHzsFx3OrQOMi6fgBw/s320/100_7210.JPG" border="0" />And here is a picture of Abbie! Isn't she beautiful. Keep your paws crossed! </p>Mom couldn't get pics of all the dogs because it got very busy (YEAH!). She is doing an adoption event with our niece <a href="http://countrygirlramblings.blogspot.com/">Emily</a> next week and Emily is a pro with the camera, so we are hoping to be able to get more! We will let you know how that one goes. <br /><p>So here is a picture of me, it's from last Sunday, you know when it was 85 degrees:</p><br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596524629425747202" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZRhtOPpql0snzBkz65W7t4z7Ry_CGU-Di3KSwotHQ4FbwPTtnH4NYpaHY24Efuad_KR-qtZLZQ8gjhsIGw_siMy1RhMrLBvby0nyAWSquJixl15hcW4vnVOlBKsMqQiJyxS7H099ChQ/s320/100_7176.JPG" border="0" />Chilling out (literally!)</p><br /><p>Woof!</p><br /><p>Kirby</p>Kirby, CGChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8223017905823030593.post-6614960754790664932011-04-09T07:06:00.006-04:002011-04-09T07:38:29.360-04:00Week in Review-Saturday Blog Hop!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgPI78x-S4MoSztYDRCT1Fs0VBH5N38XgVrVjuE_wyXkgYadR19yE6sDW4p2IKTSuIYZsPyoBbQz2fefZWsYiIuF9-Mx9KyhEZ9gAoBMHWXfS9p1Oen_qxU8SlxZDJhfMiAAZSR2avJg/s1600/100_7067.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5593542884266258370" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgPI78x-S4MoSztYDRCT1Fs0VBH5N38XgVrVjuE_wyXkgYadR19yE6sDW4p2IKTSuIYZsPyoBbQz2fefZWsYiIuF9-Mx9KyhEZ9gAoBMHWXfS9p1Oen_qxU8SlxZDJhfMiAAZSR2avJg/s320/100_7067.JPG" border="0" /></a> <br /><div>Kirby's mom here-</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Well the weather is finally getting nicer here in Michigan and it's staying lighter out later which means Kirby and I can now go to the parks in the evening. I think we both are enjoying that! I have been doing some research on parks in our area where you can walk dogs and I'm finding quite a few! If you'd like to check out some of the parks where we live here is a link to the county parks near us</div><br /><div><a href="http://www.co.ottawa.mi.us/ParksVI/Parks/select.htm">http://www.co.ottawa.mi.us/ParksVI/Parks/select.htm</a></div><br /><div></div><br /><div>I have vacation coming up soon, and my hope is to visit alot of these parks with Kirby. I will also start checking other county parks near us too. I am trying to find new environments to expose him too but also keep him safe and although dogs are supposed to leash at all parks of course you run into some that aren't. This happened the other day and I'm proud to say that Kirby stayed under somewhat under control and we were able to walk past the unleashed dog. He did growl but didn't go ballistic. I know some of my followers do unleash your dogs at parks, but if you do, please make sure your dog has a good recall, in all situations. </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Rally has been going very good. Kirby's reactiveness has been much better and he is feeling more comfortable in class. Last night a new dog showed up and Kirby went all growly face on him so we walked away and did the "look at dog" game (Thank you <a href="http://margebl0g.blogspot.com/">Marge </a>for suggesting Control Unleashed!) This was actually our first time at this game and it worked!! Kirby settled down pretty fast and we were actually able to be near the dog with no growly face! Kirby even went up to to this dog's owner for a treat! </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>We are having a hard time with "close". Our instructor showed me how to work with Kirby to get him "close" but he doesn't like it. You put the leash around his belly area and gently guide his rear next to you. He went totally terrier on me! So I will keep working with him on this, but does anyone who has done rally know another way to teach "close".? </div><br /><div>So while Kirby and I are enjoying the nice spring weather and practicing our rally moves check out these other bloggers:</div><br /><script src="http://www.linkytools.com/basic_linky_include.aspx?id=84006" type="text/javascript" ></script><br /><div></div>-Kirby's momKirby, CGChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8223017905823030593.post-57614477444035244412011-04-02T19:53:00.013-04:002011-04-02T20:18:54.142-04:00Cheap Toy!!!Kirby's mom here- Well I'm always trying to find ways to challenge Kirby's puzzle solving capabilities. At the shelter we are using brown paper bags to feed some of the dogs and the dogs are loving it, so I thought let's try it with former shelter super dog....KIRBY!! So let's see, we need a dog and a brown paper bag and a few favorite smelly treats:<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5591139334978226146" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-1gl79Oxh8QMKnCBP0xV3x0A_jS42fHFFqEzUnxt84wQiIZjEV1IaM5qWmYyOp8t4Ueehj44X6yFTYgAkS2FlpviBj-o1Mcol9s1dKyc54L1qAuok2h2SIiObVmSSj7iOuo21KLhI8g/s320/100_7113.JPG" border="0" />Put the treats in the bag and roll it up tight and let the dog have at it: <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5591139961328240834" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVjQRIxQ63pIZjd4FsI9U3dsOJAy0PraQWzYuHGQ9OeWlf8_l9etB3HnBfeALUZ3dvCK2bV-aqZ8p4gn_ISe-9ymOWdWyz5jK6z1z_JOY3aUBXFhpCTa5xlnp7aafVntN7rLpRe6Dw9g/s320/100_7128.JPG" border="0" /> <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5591140385219487602" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQJQEIiH2CmALpP91zLrkMYONDRRyNxYgljx8crH3SSzrcf496YQR85_1XIxdcJ_V3JwC3xDt1g0fGFH1wXTRML00qdSrH3r7sP7KhpBhiBkm9fPGNpZ7bbgM8Gz8NOmgxkt8k9Hmjvg/s320/100_7133.JPG" border="0" /> <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5591140934384865218" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVXiMbIdJJFjck6tYmF9ZMpmsoW33XCwVLYDkEhrgfOcFozIHKGCZENW3yfWIIaa6pGjvNCsNSlut1vq6OPaIKs8VM0fYeKqiOaUG3x03uR_JxRFDm6KSykTqC6k4NfqFPp73APo7o8Q/s320/100_7135.JPG" border="0" /> <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5591142214960772402" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyt3Rz5BGbn0hKhW3WfRJsJfu7G-41GtKRtICfYTJBVF2lK831q0YC3fFlStROXencmXW_oqVCtVrGftok4wP8r60C20O0HnZmV1bdTl7FwJU5ibIcHGr_7RmtEM0rZRsWfyaPrNaKLg/s320/100_7142.JPG" border="0" />Yeah, don't you just love the pic above!! Kirby had a blast with this game we did it three times! It was so funny to watch him figure this out. I thought he might just rip the bag open but he didn't, he kept working the bag with his paws until the opening appeared. Give this a try with your pup. If they destroy it no big deal and if they eat part of it no big deal! Lots of fun for you and them. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5591144381741306562" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOL54LqQWN4kEDcCxOKdyxPp7NhZS-DaRw3qvFX5AzYx9F92qu9SeNFCL0aVNNcuw-zLb83IEPScV1MbFJG4sC9VA0aKMROpqR7KVibLFotH-exXQQToyw5HLgGfHk6A_FwKJTiaBFhg/s320/100_7111.JPG" border="0" /> Enjoying the Kirbs, Kirby's MomKirby, CGChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8223017905823030593.post-45002763678569489312011-03-27T16:07:00.011-04:002011-03-27T16:36:57.922-04:00New park discovery!<div><br /><div><br /><div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2RXwCOM34ougWmC2vB5LmFDG5EfmZe0K6dSrVHsWTUkfjkZOTyXRMtodUoXG7HEEUsp_9AUd2l0EBfiy4Wew1U7I4AhV02TFyCJZI1pP4ekObcecemFGShH3yWhnvjcfS-SvRON77gQ/s1600/100_7070.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5588854512811915234" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2RXwCOM34ougWmC2vB5LmFDG5EfmZe0K6dSrVHsWTUkfjkZOTyXRMtodUoXG7HEEUsp_9AUd2l0EBfiy4Wew1U7I4AhV02TFyCJZI1pP4ekObcecemFGShH3yWhnvjcfS-SvRON77gQ/s320/100_7070.JPG" border="0" /></a>Kirby here-</div><br /><div><br /><div>Well it is a chilly sunny Sunday afternoon here in beautiful Western Michigan and mom and I decided it was time to check out another park. Mom was a little nervous because there wasn't much wiggle room and I got a little snarly, but mom was impressed that I didn't totally go ballistic, apparently I'm becoming more confident in myself! <em>Yeah me</em>! But, God obviously thought we needed a little more excitement in our lives. When I came in I went into the kitchen and bent down to play with Kirby, all of a sudden there was a ton of noise in my laundry room, which is right off my kitchen. It literally sounded like the ceiling came down! I carefully opened the folding doors and the only thing that had fallen off the shelf was a bottle of cleaner, I looked up and the ceiling looked fine. All of sudden, a bird was flying right past my head! I slammed the doors shut, yelling some obscenities, and got on the phone to call my dad!<br /><br />Thank God for Dads!! My dad came over and got the stupid bird to fly out of the laundry room, hit the kitchen window and knock himself silly long enough for my dad to throw a towel over him. He promptly brought him outside and the stupid bird flew off! Apparently, my dryer vent tube worked it's way off of the dryer and the bird came in.<br /><br />So where were Kirby and I? In the safety of my bedroom, peeking out the door! Kirby whined the whole time, I'm sure he wanted to be out there helping my dad. So today while Kirby, my dad and I are fixing my dryer, enjoy the blogs below!<br /><br />PS: We had our third rally class last night. It is going suprisingly well. Kirby is doing okay around the other dogs (we are still working on the halti collar-I don't plan on using it in rally until Kirbs is comfortable with it), he only snarled a little bit and that was at some new dogs. He does some of the commands very well. He actually wanted to play at class last night and wagged his tail a few times (YEAH!!!!) he is beginning to feel comfortable!<br /><br />A picture of the almost bird hunter:<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5585751892725352418" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9JlPV0_TrtGV_k9hn3WL9pAQBXafVWiqVTjHsAyzTg6uYYuxOZouO0o01Q03YbIavdPOyxyWMU6yaN0TPdPF3ndU1AoAUZCBKVOUxNHaCmFkuCz_h4YJKVtiKbwvo7MzhKEUeJ3P52A/s320/100_7001.JPG" border="0" /><br /><br /><br /><br /><script src="http://www.linkytools.com/basic_linky_include.aspx?id=80653" type="text/javascript"></script>Kirby, CGChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8223017905823030593.post-75333647072093930942011-03-15T20:03:00.004-04:002011-03-15T20:27:15.906-04:00We will miss you Scooter...<div>Kirby's mom here-</div><div></div><div> </div><div>Yesterday Kirby and I lost a wonderful friend. Scooter's owner had died and she ended up in the shelter. She was adopted and then returned to the shelter and then St. Louis Senior dog rescue took her. My sister adopted her when she had moved from Michigan to St. Louis for a job and decided she needed a friend. Scooter was 7 years old when my sister adopted her, way past the puppy stage, yet not too old to go for a run! When my sister moved back up to Michigan and Scooter became a part of all of our lives. Scooter's favorite thing to do was to hunt for rabbits...anyone with a beagle will understand that! Scooter was a wonderful friend to my sister and then to my nephew who later joined the family. Scooter was the first dog Kirby met, that he liked! Scooter was also kindred spirits with Max (see post below), as they were only about a year apart. Those two loved lounging around together, sometimes even in the same bed! </p><p>We miss you very much Scooter, but know that you are now no longer in pain and running around with Max, chasing bunnies.</p><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5584466925145825746" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizqebUmGbbyayi_H9CGHJhQY1rGUdjbftYBNR-kB7aQCPbHchduFrcmv2I1IrtvO5P7EWguseqHXyKPXlXTkzhKJvGREUyov-DIJCVs7hJXwohJARCuQXVNK7EkWiCILMO3Orz-UuWTA/s320/100_4155.JPG" border="0" />Forever in our hearts....</p><p>Kirby's mom</p>Kirby, CGChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8223017905823030593.post-74389567299804204712011-03-09T20:00:00.009-05:002011-03-09T20:22:04.176-05:00Remembering Max<div><div><div><div><div>Kirby here-</div><div> </div><div>Well tomorrow will mark the day that Max, my mom's first dog, died. I thought I would share a little bit about Max with you. My mom and her sister (my Aunt Lori) found Max on their birthday at the Kent County Animal Shelter. He was listed as a purebred Lhasa Apso (can you believe that!). Max was approximately 1 year old then. He was found as a stray with another lhasa that was very old and had to be put down because she was very ill. When mom saw Max, he was covered in mats. The mats on the bottom of his paws were probably one inch thick and his tail was matted to his back leg so he could hardly wag it. But boy was he excited to see my mom and her sister. He bounced out of the cage into their arms and gave them kisses! Mom had Max for 14 years! Mom called Max her "diamond in the ruff!" So many people looked past him because he was such a mess and wouldn't even consider him. Mom uses Max's story and mine to tell people not to overlook shelter dogs, some may be in rough shape, some may have had rough lives, but under that rough exterior is a dog that wants nothing more than love and to love. Mom and me wanted to share some pics of Angel Max. Enjoy...<br /></div></div><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5582254185556347138" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 246px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCTKo63vTAlMwDAth_0v9g9XqFysfTYj8Zu-5cL61_l1W6w8PiH5eVBs49yQNh3rSa94Ju-OsmfPkdopbPVnHSRCjfspgf3Aihyaq-N55Rz_OOAOkC7aq36-e4MMyTsvlXqoW-3F3Yww/s320/Max+8.jpg" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5582253279748890850" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 221px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfBIgaxIFoRK7tjBGDE4Y0RIQjtLeFwTksASLC_zMZisHgqkP4zf6qHSgN9fcL7oueWRSn6cgRAN36I1K8VBBWOuGju7E4U9HNBUqbwqKfhO254T6gmqT_n4_tn4uMlt7FMpQOlqWOuw/s320/Max.jpg" border="0" /> </div><br /><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5582253871525874578" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 246px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCj-pg-G6dcHbctYi6YdPMGy3fFcD0t5xP6HAsP26aKgteDLXZqnqcl1zLXBJWWjJWz7AdnH6tolRC3iCW0GuJenl1sYZLhSqD3SvTosY9C6_ttln_7EAv6JoeUUnEJUh6duHLmCalvQ/s320/scan0032.jpg" border="0" /></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5582254490856013954" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 246px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd70voXA4hza8FNGQK8-oIQTel0TMIvRmB8G2tBFEid4M1deJIUZaEJlIQtj_0gg8x21AZ7Hwka5U0dO_9DO-bS9EeRvpBU8M5gl__5V119e8eR14lTKmPbDJUSZpPB7dDEdkDeafQ9g/s320/Max+5.jpg" border="0" /> <div><br /><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5582253033506662978" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheBjJKdqqFI9Vgt2C3fHhg03TGx2qbESg7KGR1QFfSJrWwhvwNVbUP7NGP6LBw8-MVdiW6CFpdpKKlQfv36J2qyqwzMNSSWPi_OBwBOix9v0hNrg_g1ny2rR8BgxRgWIOFiLX7BIh9tA/s320/Max.JPG" border="0" /></div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5582252715594677378" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeXU8IOdm_EKNa9j-xNb-8eDiKY9t1uUlNrptIy1Dzfc-gT-T0Tal6bQ56vCZG5Gq7nLsIGakSsHd1etPehnYsSfF4lw5h0DDWAIPTcKDMUzXGMzuCrNOj_LtHvmRY7VYBfI9X0bznwQ/s320/100_0640.JPG" border="0" /></div></div><br /><p>Angel Max, forever in our hearts...</p><p>Kirby and his Mom</p>Kirby, CGChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8223017905823030593.post-42328987622315305602011-03-06T07:09:00.005-05:002011-03-06T08:20:26.735-05:00Our first rally class!Kirby's mom here-<br /><br /><br />Friday night Kirby and I had our first rally class. It actually went pretty well, considering that Kirby is dog reactive. I got there a little bit early in hopes of talking to the instructor, Sharon. She gave me some pointers on how to handle Kirby with the other dogs, the important thing for me was that she was okay with Kirby being dog reactive. She has had them in her class before and probably wants to help the dogs as much as their owners. So what did she tell me?<br /><br /><br />First, Kirby and I have to work on the "watch" command. (This is where I say "watch" and Kirby is to look at my face, not whatever else has caught his eye.) Not only will this help with other dogs, but will also help with rally and Kirby paying attention to me. I worked with Kirby on this while in class, he did pretty good, but we have quite a ways to go with it. At one point I couldn't even get his attention. He was watching dogs, not snarling at them, just INTENTLY watching and was just ignoring my command to "watch" me.<br /><br /><br />Second, was my body position with Kirby. I have read about this. She said leaders dont' lean over their dog. She said you can bend over a little bit to give him a treat, but when you are saying "watch" she said you are standing up, not leaning over. Also, to praise him like a crazy lady before giving him the treat (I added the crazy lady part), because I won't have treats on me everytime.<br /><br /><br />Sharon said I may want to consider using a Halti head collar on Kirby. She had a lady in a class that did this with her cocker spaniel who was dog reactive and had wonderful results. She said it will come in handy when you need to redirect his eyes to look at you. I did some reading on it, and felt comfortable with getting one. So I was at an adoption event yesterday at a pet store and I picked one up. Has anyone used one? If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.<br /><br /><br />By the end of the class, Sharon said Kirby was doing really good. I was able to talk to another lady whose dog was also dog reactive. She was only 3-4 feet away with her dog and Kirby just sat by my side while we talked (AWESOME!). Her dog was also just content to sit there too.<br /><br /><br />Her class is pretty interesting. She has course that is set up every class in one part of the center and the other part has new commands that you can learn. You get to go through the course with her at least 3 times and she walks you through the new commands. Then you are on your own to practice them. When you are on the course, it is only you and your dog and her. She gives excellent pointers on how to get the dogs to do the commands. I think it's going to be a good class for Kirby. We practice at our own pace, and sometimes I just make him sit or down and we practice the "watch" command. We also go through all his "tricks" while we are there. Sharon gave me that idea, she said doing this will help him to realize that he is safe there. All the dogs ignore his snarling, so he's not getting launched at or anything and all the dogs are on leashes, so he doesn't have to worry about getting attacked again. I'm hoping that this will help to build his confidence up (mine too)!<br /><br /><br />What's interesting is that I am learning what all the signs mean (there are tons of them!) and Kirby is trying to figure out what I want him to do. Yes, we are building our relationship, I can't wait to see how we are as a team by the end of fall!<br /><br /><br />So here is a picture of the new rally student:<br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5580943920207458610" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf6YFw1cVafT-lD-DZWHe3dA4f70TiRhIcJJ048fEZ4tFNlGLPx0PJBFlL7QysIl-HsjjrJ96Z6RwUStdVh7eKTJUDdaooYoVKM6MGA03nYkXr92ryBZCluGgKB7NiNX4sRC-3v6HPHw/s320/100_6804.JPG" border="0" />Again, if you have any suggestions with Halti collars (good and bad) I would appreciate hearing them.</p><p>Enjoying Kirby,</p><p>Kirby's mom</p><p> </p><p>PS: Harbor Humane Society had 104 dog and cat adoptions in February! It's called "Dogs and the women who love them", by Allen and Linda Anderson. Mom started reading it last night and really liked it. Now, I'm not the kind of dog who likes mushy love stuff, but anything my mom likes I need to know more about. So I thought I would give it a perusal:<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5578400631365430354" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg31nIKd2QNANXk0ROw0MvM9rIABhgYsFdAT_qsPsp1lHj8KSCpUsRmQJk-NtMnBogUs4rRF_6rC4njLSrDSwnsYXB64Vnp_NrVr5Dn_wRlz-0Pa1nnAR3cGPWmCbVexQGOzwq2OikbYA/s320/100_6861.JPG" border="0" /></div><div>Hmmm..so far not too bad, it's got some really good stories about us dogs and the women who love us. Some are about rescued dogs, some are about guide dogs, some are about working dogs, but really its about the relationship we form with these unique humans. It states that women can form a bond with us because of their nuturing instincts and we respond to that (boy do I ever!).<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5578401585100976370" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhijRNS6jIs6HC4iHVLQea5LyesszIS2P8IrYxiEF0TnRx5mD1T8uBDcILQSh7NixK-4aaAYdCr5WxRxm8FJH25ZKSXTtQp47F8AJtjSfI_QW7-geXcrNMRaxDxM67yNspFNKPHExLDjA/s320/100_6866.JPG" border="0" />Wow, listen to this excerpt from the book: "<em>The stories reveal the subtle beauty and effectiveness of silent inner channels of communication between species. As dogs listen-by paying attention-to women, and as women listen to dogs, they acquire wisdom that is too sweet for words, to exquisite for explanation. Dogs and the women who love them exchange glances and understand each other without speaking. They curl up together and luxuriate in the warm touch of skin against fur. Unlike most human pairs, who require ongoing conversations for interaction, a woman and a dog become soul mates without the dog ever saying a word."</em> Pretty cool, huh, no wonder mom likes this book!</div><div> </div><div> </div><div>I hope you all have that special soul mate in your life, I hope that one day all dogs will that special soul mate in their lives!</div><div> </div><div> </div><div>Woof!</div><div>Kirby</div>Kirby, CGChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8223017905823030593.post-75826830894156691822011-02-22T19:15:00.006-05:002011-02-22T19:39:16.592-05:00International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day!<div>Kirby here with a very important message to all of my blogging doggy dudes!</div><div> </div><div>Wednesday, February 23 is International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day!! To read more about Lola read the post below!</div>Kirby, CGChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8223017905823030593.post-50855831036357284022011-02-20T19:10:00.009-05:002011-02-20T19:41:15.360-05:00Saturday Happenings<div>Kirby here-</div><div> </div><div>Well yesterday, my mom helped Harbor Humane Society at an adoption event and she was able to take her neice Emily along. If you have followed my blog long enough, you will know that Emily is almost 12 years old, raised money all on her own for the dogs and cats at Harbor Humane Society, and has the biggest heart for shelter animlas. In fact when she grows up she wants to run her own shelter. So mom thought it would be a great idea to get Emily involved with some adoption events with Harbor. Mom and Emily were given the dog Lola for the day. Here is a picture of Lola:<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5575929700799515586" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvvW192tOPXgKLFgM8yr7XsOuFmVShDacWQNFrjU3b_edcurW3eS1Lyfhr3J15p0TukyLdQQcsafWR9d90iI5KJ0qN_vbpmUsSuDAzBZ6ZyfjZmGI6l7XKkN1QMgbz2euUqWZhmfrOkg/s320/Lola.jpg" border="0" />Isn't she beautiful! She's an australian shepherd/collie/ and who knows what mix! Mom and Emily walked Lola around practicing "heel" "wait" and "sit". Lola loved all the attention and did very well. She absolutely loved to be petted and loved all the kids! Mom taught Emily how to get Lola to sit, wait, and heel and Em caught on real quick too! Here is a pic of Emily, her brother and sister and Lola:</div><br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5575930579252228978" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 214px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivWCq8-thSZm9BR5Sptt_QY1wdcYItyD1vvmW9wwfoCnQc10wc1oTy8sszq24I0yYvUyhyphenhyphenM78OQDwFiEzOkS1UcrLEjlDErLlG_NOByqlKy9unJQ20Lxf3GqgwTNjvQSIDPBnfLdHLYQ/s320/108.JPG" border="0" />Mom and Emily also helped train another dog. Abbie is a lab mix, and this was her first adoption event. Abbie was a tad hyper and very pully on the leash. So mom used a prong collar on Abbie and her and Emily took her around the store and outside for awhile. Abbie responded very well on the collar and was learning how to heel really good! Emily even worked with her and Abbie listened to her too! Here is a picture of Abbie:<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5575931658646075090" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji8u-IJKtBVAgxKyY7hp-J-e853K8ED8eHcnfU_Mr3QCPl8AnbVIMRMwy2Q7NN17VErDSA9deeWB-3SyjviBUIxJoEF6opuk5INlRmPDCxsMVVC9UmER_sDE_pDBQbAVD5OlZkeu8ccw/s320/Abbie.jpg" border="0" />They had a some applications filled out while they were there and one was on Lola! So mom and Em are hoping and praying that Lola will be going to her forever home very soon! Mom absolutely loves doing adoption events! She loves to work with the dogs and tell people all about them. Now she discovered she loves sharing these events with Emily and hopes to be able to do more with her. I hope so too! <a href="http://countrygirlramblings.blogspot.com/">Emily</a> has her own blog that she started. Emily loves to learn about animals and uses this blog to write about all she is learning. She also uses it to tell funny stories and talk about her own rescued pets. She is also learning to type so all the typing is hers. If you'd like stop by and check it out. She is a young girl that knows what she wants to do and is trying gain as much knowledge and experience as she can! Mom and I are very proud we are of her!</p><p>So I'm sure you were wondering what I was up too while mom was gone yesterday...yep snoozing in sun puddles!<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5575935192215365602" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnUDKo4oyxk3F0hpIx4Gw8Gn9U-I3Dcc1jO4_UzGf8HcMS_kQCPttzA5j9GHAfBfDm8IBzitKDTzrZtywNSpoYRbpWvp0lKdxHAPhE9aNJ9NR2HIWHcIS93V5Nsg1kBfryqAZjj9N4Ew/s320/100_6842.JPG" border="0" />Woof!</p><p>Kirby</p>Kirby, CGChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com5
